Matt Bruenig

Labor lawyer

I represent labor unions and individual workers before the National Labor Relations Board, in grievance and arbitration, and in state and federal court. I also serve as outside counsel to labor unions.

What I do

About me

I have spent my career in labor law, working at and alongside the National Labor Relations Board and unions including SEIU, UAW, IAM, and UFCW. That work is the foundation of this practice: I know how the Board actually operates, and I know what unions need from their lawyers.

I also spend a lot of time on the labor law record itself — building research tools, reading decisions as they come out, and writing about where the law is moving.

Other Projects

NLRB Research

A labor law research platform I built and run, with searchable databases of Board and ALJ decisions, federal court opinions, advice and General Counsel memoranda, case dockets, collective bargaining agreements, LMRDA materials, and California PERB decisions.

NLRB Edge

A labor law newsletter covering decisions and developments at the National Labor Relations Board.

People's Policy Project

A think tank I founded in 2017, publishing research on labor, welfare, and economic policy.
